Herb Goat Cheese Spread

I have seen garlic and herb flavored goat cheese in the store and decided to try making a similar recipe that is garlic-free. My mom has a recipe for boursin cheese with herbs and garlic that she’s made for years. I have always loved it. I also love goat cheese. So I was inspired to create this recipe for low FODMAP Herb Goat Cheese Spread with similar herbs as the boursin cheese.

When I say it is garlic-free, I mean that it doesn’t have minced garlic or garlic powder in it. But it does have garlic-infused oil. Garlic-infused oil does not contain the fructans that garlic has that many people with IBS can’t tolerate. However, it provides a nice garlic scent and flavor. I use dried herbs which are more potent (and convenient!) than fresh, so it doesn’t take much to give the cheese a nice herb-y flavor.

making spread in food processor

The best way to make this Herb Goat Cheese Spread is to use a food processor. I have had my Hamilton Beach Food Processor for years now and it is still going strong. It does an excellent job of processing the goat cheese, oil, and herbs into a smooth spread. The goat cheese may be crumbly when you first start processing, especially if it’s cold. But just keep processing and it will soon turn creamy. If it doesn’t, you can always add a little lactose-free milk.

Serve this spread with your favorite low FODMAP crackers (Blue Diamond Pecan Nut-Thins are pictured) or pretzels. You could also eat it with veggies like carrots sticks or radishes, or in a sandwich. I have some more recipes in the works that use or are inspired by this recipe, and I hope to get them posted soon. Stay tuned!
